What is the Law of Attraction, really?
I have had many conversations with skeptics and scientific minded people who argue that there is no such law called the “Law of attraction.”
What they are really objecting to is that it is not a law that is identified and explained by physics or science. Some people I have talked to were just annoyed with the idea because they could not understand the law of attraction and could not learn to use it to their advantage. They say “It does not work.”
Others view the whole idea as some sort of occult practice, pseudo science, or just a fraud. Indeed, one of the first people I knew of personally that wrote about it was William Walker Atkinson in a book called “Thought Vibration, or the law of attraction in the thought world.” This is a quote from his book:
“We speak learnedly of the Law of Gravitation–but ignore that equally wonderful manifestation–The Law of Attraction in the Thought World. We are familiar with that wonderful manifestation of Law which draws and holds together the atoms of which matter is composed. We recognize the power of the law that attracts bodies to the earth, that holds the circling worlds in their places–but we close our eyes to the mighty Law that draws to us the things we desire or fear–that makes or mars our lives.
When we come to see that Thought is a force–a manifestation of energy, having a magnet-like power of attraction–we will begin to understand the why and wherefore of many things that have heretofore seemed dark to us. There is no study that will so well repay the student for his time and trouble as the study of the workings of this mighty law of the world of Thought–The Law of Attraction.”
My first exposure to the term “The Law of Attraction” was a book by Esther and Jerry Hicks. I highly recommend their books, particularly the first one called, “The Law of Attraction. Now whether or not there is an entity called “Abraham” that speaks to Esther Hicks makes no difference at all to me. It is the information in the book that is important. But before that book, I was excited about a book called “The Science of Getting Rich” by Wallace D. Wattles. Wattles book became my Bible.
Even the Wattles book was not my first exposure to these techniques. Do you remember when the practice of writing affirmations was so popular I found a book sold via snail mail called “How to solve all your money problems forever.” It was $15.00.
These books are still not the first to be written about the Law of attraction, and today you will find hundreds of them. Look at the Bible. The techniques are written in there too. So do you really think you should ignore this ancient wisdom while you chase get rich quick schemes and systems, paying your hard earned money for them? I would advise you to look into this stuff even if you are a non-believer.
What exactly is the Law of attraction?
As Esther and Jerry Hicks book states, it means: “That which is like unto itself is drawn.” This simply means “Like attracts like.” They are talking about vibrations or thoughts. Love will attract love, fear will attract fear, hate will attract hate.
What does this have to do with getting rich?
A lot. If you will notice, there are some of the most successful business people today along with many successful Internet marketers who will attest to the idea of using these techniques to attract what you want in your life. Some of them are teaching and selling the idea. But you don’t have to pay for it. The information is free. First read “The Science of Getting Rich.” Find it on Wikipedia or even on this website chapter by chapter. Then I would suggest you purchase Esther and Jerry Hicks books if you want more details and encouragement.
You might wonder what the point of this post is. The answer is I just wanted to write a post and talk about something I think is important. I have been wasting time chasing dreams myself and I have not been practicing the techniques of the law of Attraction, so consider this post to be a pep talk to myself. Maybe if you read it, it will be a pep talk for you too.
I want you to consider looking into this thought vibration technique before you start spinning your wheels and spending your money on every Internet guru who claims to have the secrets to success.
